Packed calendars, long days, late nights – the festive season is in full swing! If this busy time is taking its toll on your once fresh face, then why not try out some of our natural remedies!
The dilation of the blood vessels underneath your eyes are the most common culprit of those dark tired looking eyes. Placing a cold compress over darkened areas helps to constrict the blood vessels and reduce dark circles. Try a dampened frozen face washer, a chilled eye mask, frozen teaspoons or frozen peas wrapped in a cloth.
An oldie but a goodie! Cucumber contains natural anti-inflammatory properties which helps to reduce tired puffy eyes. Simply slice the cucumber, dip it into water then chill in the fridge or freezer. Once nicely chilled, lie back and place the cucumber slices over your eyes. Lie there for 20 minutes then check out the eye transformation!
The tannins found naturally in tea help to firm and tighten the skin around the eyes. Try either camomile or green tea for top results. Best part of this remedy is that it’s a 2-for-1! Relax with a nice cup of herbal tea first, then place the used teabag into the fridge to cool. Once cooled, place the tea bags over your eyes and relax while the teas natural properties take effect.
Tap a nap
When you’re lacking sleep your skin is often paler than usual. This can further increase the appearance of dark eye circles. Brighten up your skin by taking a 15-20 minute revitalising nap.
Elevate your head
If you are prone to puffy eyes when you are tired, simply try elevating your head while sleeping. Elevating the head helps to drain away and fluid that gathers around the eyes taking away some of the puffiness.
Hydration has a massive impact upon the appearance of your skin including those unsightly dark circles under your eyes. Maintaining hydration levels ensures your skin looks bright and healthy. Current recommendations are to drink 8 glasses or more of water per day. Remember that caffeine and alcohol dehydrate so if you are consuming more than usual, make sure you up your water intake to compensate.
